For the time being I’m just going to try to understand the backstory of the squabble between White Nationalists and anti-racists. The battle within the larger skinhead movement that culminated in the attack yesterday at a Chicago-area restaurant. The Anti-Racist Action organization sprung up in Minneapolis back in the 1980s and seems mostly to be a reaction to the increasing neo-Nazi presence within the skinhead punk scene. Just my initial interpretation of this fits what commenter Ryu was saying on my initial post on the topic. The ARA and neo-Nazi skinheads are two white groups hashing it out on the fault line of racism. But racism is probably just the excuse for the larger internecine status squabble. Here is a rudimentary documentary on “The Baldies” which arose out of Minneapolis which later turned into the ARA and has spread through the country often relying on violence to combat neo-Nazis and White Nationalists (not that the latter don’t do the same).
