Funny, I was just reading this: http://vault-co.blogspot.ca/2012/04/decline-is-defined-by-loss-of.html

I got the top marks in my school on Mathematics, including the voluntary Euclid and Descartes Calculus exams, and my Calculus teacher absolutely despised me. He’d spend half the class reiterating Grade 12 math for the retards, and by the time he got to the calculus I’d have zoned out. Took to skipping his class, showing up drunk, and relying on the textbook for my education, and still getting the top marks.

    He couldn’t stand me.

Aurini, any reason you’re reading a dude that on the face of it looks bugfuck insane?

Bugfuck insane – haven’t heard that one before

I don’t understand the point of this post or those commercials. Is it just that, “teachers are important”? Or is there a deeper message in there?

@Average Man: I think the post is trying to show Mobil’s absurd manufactured diversity, especially in the engineering ranks.

Huh, a Chinese engineer who was a bad student in high school. The man is a liar!

Can’t they come up with more realistic lies? Maybe a crack head?

  7. The fourth doorman of the apocalypse 10/13/2012 at 9:31 pm

Hah. I notice that the Iranian (looks like) woman is listed as an Engineer, and the Chinese guy is listed as an engineer, but the black woman is not.

I guess they know that they can’t lie too much.

Same people unaware that the US is 16% Hispanic. “Wait, what, there’s that many here now?”

  9. Aurini 10/13/2012 at 10:05 pm

    Truth comes in many forms.

The people who are most likely to have low opinions of an oil company are the same people who are most likely to adopt a more favorable opinion after seeing demographically unrealistic ads like these.

New bucket list item, ride that road on my motorcycle. Anyway, it feels kind of like what TV did with federal law enforcement agents. The real FBI has got to be an unsexy, dirty, rough and tumble profession, but cable TV dramas make it look like glamorous models bust up organized crime in shiny glass offices. You know part of that is the government lending their assent and help to the making of these shows, it’s presented a certain way because of the strings the government attaches. I can see my own company glam what we do sometimes also, bringing it out of Dilbert style cubeville culture in the name of attracting women who would otherwise aim to be lawyers and doctors and bankers. I don’t know if this gets to what Chuck meant, but it’s just something I notice. Turning a field over to the diversity mafia means having to sentimentalize it to some extent.

Well, ExxonMobil might have caved to PC, but in the years since I started buying its stock in 1995 its value has quadrupled and it pays a handsome dividend. All this not from some high-flying startup, but from one of America’s oldest and largest stodgy corporations.

My politics may be offended, but my bank account sure is happy.

“Sure we’re polluters, but we’re diverse!”

Cringed hard at that “did things with electronics and motherboards” line, you even see her eyes do the shift off motion after she said it. She is listed as an engineer early in the ad fourth doorman. Hmm…comments are disabled for the videos at youtube, I can only wonder why.

the real question is, who are they trying to fool? why does anyone give a shit about these random people’s high school teachers?
