On ESPN, sports writer Rob Parker “went there” on RG3, asking “is he a brotha, or is he a cornball brotha.” Kind of like the scene in 40 Year Old Virgin where Kevin Hart’s character says to the black salesman “don’t be a Negro, be my nigga.”
I was wondering when this would come up because if you’ve watched RG3 at all this season on the Redskins’ sidelines, he seems more chummy with white players than a Michael Vick or a Cam Newton. He’s also from a military family which reminds me of Shaquille O’Neal whose father was in the Army. Shaq has never been accused of being a “cornball brotha” per se, but he’s generally corny and has done some white things such as attempt to become a law enforcement officer.
Parker stated that he wants to learn more about RG3 which is a strange thing for any reporter to say about a black person given the vehemence with which they rejected any vetting of the actual most famous black person in America. But, this guy is a quarterback so we really, really need to ask these questions about him. Obama? Not so much. That’s racist.
After distancing himself from Parker’s aggressive statement, Stephen A. Smith continued:
“What I would say to you is that the comments he made are fairly predictable,” Smith went on. “I think it’s something that he may feel, but it’s also a concerted effort to appease the masses to some degree, which I’m finding relatively irritating, because I don’t believe that the black athlete has any responsibility whatsoever to have to do such things.
“Let me say this clearly. I don’t know of anybody who goes into something trying to be the best black anything. We understand that. That’s a given,” Smith said. “But I do think it’s important to acknowledge a level of pride and a feeling of a level of accomplishment for being somebody who happens to be of African American descent, who competes and achieves and accomplishes things on the highest level while also bringing attention – to some degree anyhow – to the pride that they feel being black. Because they’re allowing themselves to be a reminder to those who preceded them, who worked so hard, accomplished and achieved so much, but were denied the accolades that that individual is receiving.”
Does anyone else think Parker wanted to call RG3 Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air? The black monolith will be denied vociferously except for every moment that it reveals itself like Cthulu.
Since we know the military tests for IQ and the IQ floor is 93, we can infer that since he is the product of two senior NCOs (and they’re married AND they raised him together!), he’s probably well over the black average IQ of 85. The fact he is seemingly intelligent, charismatic and probably one of the most athletic people in the country should be held up as a success story for folks who have lived the right way. Amazing for someone like Parker to say such a thing, but you’re right – if he’s saying it, there are many more who are thinking it.
If he really wants to know, he should arrange an interview and, Jack Ruby-style, quickly rub cold cream on RG’s face to see if any shoe polish comes off. In actuality, he’s not serious about the issue. Parker is just following the example of every other black sports “journalist” by pulling fake race cards out of his ass, and demanding everyone talk about it (and thus, talk about Parker) because to not talk about everything black is like putting them all back in chains.
I guess I need to google who or what RG3 as have no idea what you’re talking about.
and yes Black people are proud of the accomplishments of Blacks who are high achieving. When there are still many ” firsts” happening after being in this country for over 400 years(slavery -jim crow – self inflicted genocide by the lower tier)why wouldn’t we be.
Look, I didn’t begrudge White men who were rooting Christophe LeMaitre success I understand where that comes from. You sort of live thru the success of others whether you contributed to the other person’s success or not.
Rob Parker isn’t “down” as evinced by the fact that he thinks wearing braids is still in. Wearing braids went out about a decade ago. Name one prominent black athlete who currently wears braids, other than RG3.
And what does “down with the cause” means? It doesn’t mean shit really – saying RG3 is not “down with the cause” is a euphemism for “he acts white”.
Anybody who endured years of Parker in the Detroit News and on Detroit sports radio can tell you he’s not exactly Tupac or Malcolm X himself. The guy could wax rhapsodic for hours on end about hockey, for God’s sake.
I knew RGIII was cool when he showed up in a U.S. soccer shirt to watch the national team play Brazil back in the spring.
RGIII is the rookie QB for the Redskins who is having a good year. He is from a respectable family and acts like a self respecting upper middle class person (i.e. white). Most black athlete act like hood thugs so its a story I guess.
Is anyone sick of the AA journolists that infect the airwaves now? Shucking and jiving, talking dumbshit like this balding “real brotha”. Keeping it real, real dumb.
You act surprised. You must not know Smith. Race hustler in sports, too. His black-ass lickin’ white brother, who strives mightily to prove his pc race bona fides is idiot Skippy Bayliss.
It’s got to be hard for a guy like RG3–black AND smart. Realizing he’s smart (which is why blacks ARE so “proud” of him…he’s not Vick, he’s not Allen Iverson, he’s SMART) blacks realize he holds some views that are contrary to theirs. They can’t have that because they’ve already said he’s smart. If they hold views that oppose his, they realize they look dumb. Can’t have that!
Bayless has actually made some non-PC statements on race before. He said that he roots for Kevin Love solely b/c he’s white in a black dominated league. And back in April when the Redskins drafted RG3 and then a white QB in the 4th round, Bayless suggested that some white Redskins fans would root for the white QB merely on race. He’s probably said other stuff too, but that’s what comes to mind.
“Bayless has actually made some non-PC statements on race before. ”
Count me among those who has missed such statements, then. Whenever I hear him (and he used to write for my “home” paper), he is butt licking (“you know how much I feeeeeeeel for what you’ve been through and your brothers have been through……”. Gag me with a spoon.
RGIII also attended a high school that was not majority black unlike many of the top 100 prospects who come out of the all black high schools in Florida or Houston. RGIII attended a university with very few black students and that has no hangers-on (Wal-Mart alumni). That means that RGIII did not start out college with an entourage of black hangers-on like a big time player at Alabama or Ohio State would. I believe that RGIII actually graduate from Baylor unlike most of the football players at the big time schools.
In addition, RGIII has a white girlfriend who he started been dating before he became famous.

Rob Parker looks cornball compared to any other black on ESPN, btw.
I’m disappointed all this talk of skin color has sullied the good name of the Redskins.

Chic Noir girl you down for blind date with a real Soldier
Yes promoting justice . Who do you have lined up for chic noir?
@youngreact- I was about to write that myself about the braids.
yeah, no “down” black dude is wearing braids anymore. so, yeah, maybe RG3, braids and all, is an uncle tom.

Chick Noir Anti-Racist may interest in you first. Then officers have choosing order with women. We value Women of Rich Dark Color.

Is it just me, or do the rest of you find this Parker guy to sound exceptionally dim-witted? Not only can’t he think, but he can barely talk.

RG3 is whiter than I am and that’s saying something
“…accomplishments of Blacks who are high achieving….”
Who are these achieving Negroes?
“Count me among those who has missed such statements, then.”
I gave two pretty good examples, so it’s hard for you to miss those.
Hey, at least Parker was honest.

Parker would have been fired not suspended for the same comments if he was white.
